The Outfit:
Dress: Mostly I wear dresses, they’re easy, comfortable and I don’t have to pull on them constantly because they keep sliding down because the waist is too big (I’m talking to you jeans). Last Fall/Winter I searched high and low for over sized sweatshirt and sweater dresses and could not find anything under $500. I guess this style wasn’t mainstream enough yet so it hadn’t trickled down to more affordable brands and stores.
SN: I was so determined to have an over sized sweatshirt dress I tried one of those long hoodies H&M sells in the Men’s Department but it had zero shape so I had to leave it there. Another try on fail SN, Top Shop had what seemed to be an over sized sweatshirt dress (on the model) until I tried it on and my hips filled it out. Story of my life.
Well, I’ve been blessed in the wardrobe department and this style dress is starting to trickle into stores. I’ve mostly been finding body-con sweatshirt/sweater dresses but there’s one or two over sized styles. I found this dress at Express at Lenox Square on a Wednesday decided to wait on it. Then on Friday learned the entire store was 40% off so because it was not available on-line or any other store (at the time) I braved Lenox on not only a Saturday but Labor Day Weekend when 500,000 tourists were in town to get this dress. That’s how much I loved it.
This dress is so soft and cozy like the perfect sweater. I plan to wear it through the winter with OTK boots and may even layer it with a vest if I’m feeling froggy. You can even do a black tight and booties. Overall, I’m giving this dress a 10!
Sneakers: Let me just start off by saying in Middle School/High School Adidas was EVERYTHING! I legit had all things Adidas and I have the photos to prove it (there’s potential for me to share those with you guys, keep your fingers crossed 😉 ) I had the RunDMC inspired tracksuit, Superstars, Slides, the tear away pants in the thick material and “paper”, I had soccer shorts, sweatshirts, book bags and more. I went so hard for Adidas. So, last Summer when I saw a young lady walking through the neighborhood with all black on and the Classic Adidas Originals Slides I had to make a call to my much younger and hip to current trends friend to ask if Adidas was a thing again. That’s when I was blessed with the information that my beloved Adidas was once again all the rage! I’ve since purchased slides, basic leggings and these Superstars and they were worth every. single. penny.
I’d like to inform everyone that my white Converse have been my go-to basic sneaker that I wear with everything. My style is laid back and I don’t wear heels often so one of my favorite way to wear dresses is with sneakers. I was doing it long before it became “in style”. Anyhow, Chucks are perfect for that but after 3 years of constant wear my Chucks needed to be upgraded so instead of buying a new pair I decided to go back nostalgic, Adidas.
The fit on the current Superstars and the OG’s is different. I tried on multiple sizes because they kept sliding off my heels even when the length was too short. I don’t remember this being a problem 10 years ago but I also can’t remember my name sometimes so there’s that. The associate then informed me that the cut was made different this time around and that hers slide off too. However, they bring the shoes out without the top hole laced and once I laced them all the way up the sliding became minimal.
I was very hesitant to give in to the black and white Superstars because EVERY. ONE. has them. But then I thought of everything I could wear them with (literally everything in my closet!) and was #sold. I mean there’s a reason everyone has them and wears them all the time. Duh!
