Before we get into The Lesson and The Outfit I would like to give a big disclaimer. I took a week of vacation from my 9-5 and went back home to Charleston where I woke up at 5:30 am 4 days in a row for photo shoots for my blog. I wouldn’t get back “home” until lunch time and when I did I looked through and edited photos until midnight. With that being said these photos were on the 4th morning and I don’t know why in the hell I didn’t put my sunglasses on.
In addition, dreams don’t work unless you do. #HustleHard
The Lesson
So, as a child my Mom told me that if your garments care instructions say Dry Clean Only you could hand wash it or wash on the gentle cycle and let it air dry. This is a lie. I learned that after I purchased this Fall ready shift shirtdress and decided to wash it via my washing machine. Because I’m a rule follower I didn’t even put it in the dryer like my Momma taught me. However, when my dress dried the color was a little off. It looked like the color washed out a little and left little white marks on the dress like when the ocean water flows up on shore and slides back to mother nature and leaves that foam on the sand.
After my mess up I finally realized I need the Dry Cleaners and took my dress in only to learn it was too late. Dah well, I tried but the damage was done. I also did this to one of my favorite jumpsuits.
Lesson learned, if the garment says Dry Clean Only …. don’t buy it! lol jk You can buy it but please take it to the Dry Cleaners.
The Outfit
Dress: I found this dress at Marshalls for *gasp* $30, it retails for $128 and looks very similar to a Rachel Roy dress I’d been eyeing. Needless to say I was sold immediately, they only had 3 left and one was mine! I’m not an impulse anything, seriously, I think everything through before I do it so for me to walk in for no reason and take this home without any thought speaks volumes. The cut and weight of fabric is perfect for every day wear. The color is Fall ready. Best part, not only is this a dress for your 9-5, it’s great for Date Nights, #GNO and when paired with Superstars even errands.
On the down side it’s Dry Clean Only and serious about that suggestion and it wrinkles like nobody’s business.
Shoes: I’ve been wearing these shoes a lot so I thought I should tell you why after 8 years they’re still in my closet and getting worn. Well, they are a neutral color and style so they go with everything but the most important reason is they’re comfortable. I don’t wear heels often so the fact that I can wear these an entire evening speaks volumes.
What makes these so comfortable is they are sturdy. They have a thick heel along with full foot and ankle coverage, I won’t be wobbling in them. Also, the soles are rubber making them shock resistant.
