THE OUTFIT
While it may be February, in my mind it’s Spring, heck, even Summer. I’ve been shopping and building my warm weather wardrobe for a month now. So, when I heard from Shein I had to add to my upcoming wardrobe. I’ve been wanting an accordian maxi skirt for a while now but just hadn’t found the one … until now. After pink then mint candy apple, kelly green is my favorite color so I was easily sold on the color. Based on the photos and description the waist was well tailored and not going to roll around like elastic waistbands not to mention how much weight/inches they add. Obvs, I’m not a fan of the elastic waistbands lol.
Secret squirrel time, even though I’m a blogger and own an e-commerce site I do not shop online very often and am very hesitant on ordering. Now that I am blogging I’m learning and seeing how many more options there are online and to be honest I’m kind of into online shopping over irl.
With that being said, the description of the skirt is VERY accurate. There is no stretch in the waist band. Hi, my name is Julia and I ate way too many bad things over the holidays. With the waist band being made the way it is, it is PERFECT for crop tops come Summer and I can’t wait! In addition, the skirt is a steal at $26!!! The quality for what you pay is great, it’s a recommend from me.
THE LESSON
So, how did I transition my Kelly Green Maxi Skirt while it’s 50 ish degress? Well, first I’m from the South so it’s not as hard as someone in an actually cold climate. lol Seriously, the best way to transition a maxi skirt is to pair it with a full coverage top that is medium weight along with a full coverage shoe. I choose my Superstars because if I’m not in boots or sandals I’m in sneakers. Sneakers with full length skirts is very on trend right now as well.
You want a medium weight top because the fabric isn’t going to compete with the light weight flowy material of the skirt. A medium weight is also going to keep you warmer than say a long sleeve tee. A chunky knit sweater would just be too much. You may end up looking like the old lady who lived in her shoe.
You want a full coverage shoe because like I said it’s 50-ish degrees and even though I’m southern sandals in that temperature is no go from and for me. Also, you may have been neglecting your regular pedis while running around in UGG boots all winter. *raises hand*
Medium Weight Top Examples: button down blouse, light knit sweater, long sleeve tee with a moto jacket layered
Shoe Examples: Booties (heeled or flat), Sneakers, Slip Ons (Sorry, that’s all I’ve got)
Even though I exclusively wear dresses in the summer, I don’t wear a lot of skirts or separates for that matter. With my blog I’m getting back into why I started working in Fashion 15 years ago and why I spent WAY TOO MUCH money on a BA in Fashion Marketing. That reason is, I love fashion and being creative in what I wear, trying new trends and challenging myself to make the most of what is already in my closet.
Oh My Gosh, I’m such a rambler!!! Point is, I’m challenging myself to try pieces and styling that isn’t a part of my everyday uniform. If you have any separates styling recommendations send them my way!
