SIMILAR SWEATER DRESS | TRENCH: ZARA (thrifted) | BOOTIES | SUNGLASSES | CLUTCH
My styling strategy is definitely mixing old with new and in the Fall with a thrifted coat. This upcoming season my star pieces are going to be long overcoats so I’ve been frequenting my local thrift stores. My budget doesn’t call for 5 $200 coats (that’s a whole “stack”) I want quality coats, we’re talking 100% wool and my local Value Village always has the best selection of winter coats, $30 or less. Looking for long wool coats is how I found and scored this chic trench from Zara. I’m unsure what year this trench is from but I found it seemingly unworn for $8.
After perusing Pinterest for Fall inspo and reviewing my looks from last year I was inspired to play with more layering as I normally don’t layer even though I love the way it looks. While planning this look the trench was the last thing I added. I thought of the dress and then the booties (because I just got them and am currently obsessed) then I thought how can I make a basic sweater dress and booties more sassy? Well, with a new thrifted trench of course!
I belted the trench and choose not to zip it to leave a peak of my dress. By belting the trench it creates a waistline that may have gotten lost otherwise. And by leaving the jacket open a vertical line is created giving the appearance of height which we all know is slimming.
DRESS: I received this last year from Mud Pie, it’s super cozy, warm and soft. I sized up because I wanted an oversized look. This specific dress is sold out but I’ve linked this years version.
BOOTIES: Ummm, there’s an entire blog post HERE about them. You can also get an updated link and see how I styled them with a hoodie dress HERE
TRENCH: While the trench I’m wearing is obviously unavailable HERE is the classic version also from Zara.
CLUTCH: I’ve had this clutch about 2 years, it’s from a small business, Gray Monroe. See other ways I’ve styled it HERE, HERE and HERE.
