SUMMER OUTFIT: HOW TO RESTYLE AN OLD DRESS

First off, this dress was all the rage on Instagram a few weeks ago. It’s hands down the most sold item I’ve ever shared. I mean, I don’t push selling stuff but still.

Secondly, I’ve had this dress for 3 years so when everyone was asking me sizing questions I didn’t actually know. I was making educated guesses. See, I’ve had this dress for years but because I know what I know about small boutiques and where they actually get their clothes I knew I could find this on Amazon and that’s what I did for you guys. I found the dress on Amazon and you guys all said you loved it so I’m going with I was right and I like being right.

I talk about maximizing your wardrobe and using new pieces of the season to update pieces you already have in your closet all the time. It’s literally the purpose of my site. WTBS, I used my favorite of the season accessories to update “this old thing” also known as this mumu dress. This is a mumu dress in my book.

Because I’ve had such a hard time finding clothing I love and want to actually buy I went to my closet to see what I can restyle. While searching my dress section I found this dress, when I realized I hadn’t worn it in years I decided it was the winner I’d be restyling with new accessories.

In The Rule of 5 we start with a neutral color palette of classic silhouettes to help us maximize our wardrobes, this dress is a prime example as to why. By choosing a simple silhouette in a neutral color 3 years after purchasing it I was able to restyle it with on trend accessories making it current.

To refresh this old dress I styled it with my newly purchased favorite accessories …

• A straw fedora is one of my favorite styles come Summer so it was an immediate purchase when I found this one in H&M for $12.

• During one of my infamous Target Runs (they’re infamous, you heard it here first!) I tried on these octagon sunglasses with you guys on stories and immediately bought them, they’ve been the pair I pick up and wear most this season.

• Lastly, earlier in the year I finally took the plunge and bought the Mini Julian bookbag and I’m so glad I did I use it almost daily but that’s also my bag MO. I really wanted the LV Palm Springs book bag but the way my goals are set up I went with the Julian.

Next time you get in a rut or can’t think of anything to wear remember The Rule of 5 and shop your closet first. Style an old piece with new pieces for a refreshed vibe and it’ll feel like new. Bonus: you’ll save money by not running to the store to buy something new!
