FEATURE JEANS
For today’s Rule of 5, I’m sharing the uber popular and on trend Levi’s Wedgie Jeans. If you are unfamiliar or new to my site I go into further detail about the Rule of 5 below.
This is my second pair and I think I like these more than the first. These are a darker wash with mild distressing whereas my first pair was a basic pair in a light wash.
They are called the wedgie fit because they give the appearance of a slight wedgie in your bum. Not uncomfortable, at all. The wedgie fit gives the appearance of a more lifted bottom.
As far as rise, I’ve found both styles I have hit right at/under the belly button which is a bit odd considering there’s an inch difference in their rise. I could of course be remembering wrong too.
MY #1 SHOPPING RULE: THE RULE OF 5
A RULE I CREATED TO BE MORE INTENTIONAL WITH MY PURCHASES TO HELP STRETCH MY SHOPPING BUDGET TO IT’S MAXIMUM CAPACITY
WHO ELSE HAS BOUGHT A NEW TOP BECAUSE YOU “LOVED IT SO MUCH” THEN MONTHS LATER IT STILL HASN’T BEEN WORN?
We’ve all been there! There has been a time in our life we’ve walked in our closet looking for something to wear only to be reminded of the items we purchased but still haven’t worn, tags still attached and all.
When we make impulse purchases we end up with a closet of one offs that we only have one other item to wear with it, if even that.
When we make impulse purchases we end up with a closet full of clothes yet still have NOTHING to wear. WHY are we like this?!
In 2013, after losing 20lbs, purging 90% of my closet and only having a clothing budget of $150 a month I was in desperate need of a high functioning wardrobe. That is when, why and how I created my #1 shopping rule, The Rule of 5.
I knew in order to still buy quality pieces I loved I was going to have to get creative (and disciplined) and that’s exactly what I did. Every single purchase I made for the following year was well thought out and 100% intentional. I had no room for impulse purchases, the function of my wardrobe couldn’t afford it.
I bet you don’t like throwing your money away, do you?
We all deserve to hit our financial goals (and best wardrobes) and a great starting point is to become more intentional with what we spend our money on.
I want you to be great in everything you do so I wrote a 24 page book to fully share The Rule of 5 with you. There’s even worksheets for you to brainstorm your goal wardrobe!

3-TIER BUDGETING SYSTEM
When I make a wish list I price each item and place it into one of three tiers. High, Mid or Low.
For me those price points are:
High = $100+, Mid $50-$100, Low = under $50
My denim (including this pair) are always in the High tier. Jeans are just one of those items we spend a little more on because they have the ability to transform our bodies. We also get a lot of wear out of them. When I love a pair of jeans I’ll wear them once or twice a week for at least a year so they need to be great quality to last those wears.
My high tier pieces are always shoes, handbags and denim because those are items we wear multiple times a week and typically have and wear them for years. So when we break down our cost per wear we’re really getting our monies worth.
This 3 tier system is actually is a part of 1 of the 12 steps in my e-book, Build Your Dream Wardrobe on a Budget.
These 12 steps completely transformed how I shop and how I look at money I spend.
If you need more help building your wardrobe my e-book, Build Your Dream Wardrobe on a Budget is a great tool. The 12 steps I take when planning and shopping for my wardrobes each season is covered in detail with examples for you. These are the steps I take to ensure each purchase is intentional, it’s also the strategy I used to budget to purchase my first Louis Vuitton handbag. In fact, The Rule of 5 is one of the 12 steps in the e-book.
LOOK 1: OVERSIZED T-SHIRT
SHIRT: I picked this YSL inspired T-shirt on ETSY, it’s insanely soft and high quality. It’s always good to throw on and run errands or lounge around the house. I sized up for an oversized fit.
JEANS: This is my second pair of the Levi’s Wedgie fit. I always size up one in Levi’s, they do “break-in” aka stretch out with wear so I could do my TTS but I rather have some breathing room.
HANDBAG: This is the Louis Vuitton Alma bb in Damier. The crossbody strap is on the shorter side, I’m 5’4″ so it’s the perfect length for me to wear crossbody. Overall, I enjoy the bag and recommend it. It is my everyday handbag.
SHOES: I had no idea if I’d wear these or not so they were a complete gamble. Actually, these were purchased for Fall… wtbs, I’m already wearing these and absolutely love them. They’re so classic, chic and instantly pull a look together. These are actually from Amazon but I see me investing in the actual Gucci style next year.
LV LOCKET: My locket is a DIY, I used my LV locket from my Alma and bought a purse chain off Amazon. This style is sold on ETSY, I linked a referred seller for you.
CUBAN ANKLET: this is a cankle friendly anklet y’all, I have no ankles so this was a gift from Jeff Bezos lol
NAME ANKLET: also cankle friendly if you order the 8.5″. This style is from my shop, shopjuliamarie.com Today is actually the last day to order!
LOOK 2: SHOULDER PAD SHIRT
3D BAR NECKLACE
The 3D Bar Necklace is a great layering piece from my shop, shopjuliamarie.com. I wear mine on a 20″ chain so it serves as the framing piece when layering.
This style is available in 18kt gold, 18kt rose gold or sterling silver.
It’s serves as a great gift for Mom or Grandma as you’re able to engrave all 4 sides with a different name, date or word.
P.S. Today is the LAST day to purchase this piece as it is being discontinued tomorrow!
SHIRT: By now we all have a shoulder pad shirt. I feel like it’s the Summer version of Spring’s tie-dye sweatsuit. I now have the basic white top, crop/cinched black top and a beige t-shirt dress in the shoulder pad style. All from Zara. All run TTS. All I recommend.
JEANS: This is my second pair of the Levi’s Wedgie fit. I always size up one in Levi’s, they do “break-in” aka stretch out with wear so I could do my TTS but I rather have some breathing room.
HAT: Recommend! It’s pulls a look together and helps to protect your fave when you’re outside in the sun. That’s all I have lol
HANDBAG: I LOVE love the look of this bag but I never use it because it doesn’t hold shit. If I wear going out to dinners and drinks, I’d def use it more but right now I’m mostly on Target and Grocery runs. Long story short, I love it, recommend it but bear in mind you’re not getting much in here.
SANDALS: I love these YSL inspired sandals from Zara, they’re one of my favorite sandals this Summer. Anytime I have to make a quick run I slide these on. I say they run TTS but a few people recommend a size up.
LOOK 3: TUBE TOP + HEELS
3D BAR NECKLACE
The 3D Bar Necklace is a great layering piece from my shop, shopjuliamarie.com. I wear mine on a 20″ chain so it serves as the framing piece when layering.

TOP: There’s not much to say about this, it’s a basic $5 tube top I picked up from the juniors section at Target. The fit leaves something to be desired but it is $5 and serves it’s purpose. I don’t wear tube tops often so this works!
JEANS: This is my second pair of the Levi’s Wedgie fit. I always size up one in Levi’s, they do “break-in” aka stretch out with wear so I could do my TTS but I rather have some breathing room.
BUM BAG: New to the team is the MCM Bum Bag. I actually sold my MCM clutch that I wasn’t using to purchase the bum bag and I’m so glad I did. I absolutely love it and have been using it a few days a week. I envision it with all black sweats, long overcoats and sneakers in the Winter.
SHOES: I bought these 2 Summers ago but linked this seasons version for you. They’re super comfortable, easy to walk in and run TTS.
LOOK 4: BODYSUIT
CARRIE NAME HOOPS
3D BAR NECKLACE
CARRIE NAME HOOPS are one of my fave pieces from my shop. These are the perfect statement piece when sweater weather comes. I have this pair for 3+ years and still wear them regularly.

BODYSUIT: The infamous Zara bodysuit! I have this in the nude and white. Since, I’ve found similar bodysuits that I actually prefer because they don’t show every crevice, jiggle or belly laugh. I linked those for you. … I do love the style of the Zara bodysuits but they show everything and fit short so either boob or hip is always sticking out.
JEANS: This is my second pair of the Levi’s Wedgie fit. I always size up one in Levi’s, they do “break-in” aka stretch out with wear so I could do my TTS but I rather have some breathing room.
SANDALS: These studded sandals were added to my collection this Summer. I love a nude and stud sandal and they are always a go-to in the warmer months. This style does run a tad snug/narrow so I recommend going up your normal half size.
HANDBAG: This is the Louis Vuitton Alma bb in Damier. The crossbody strap is on the shorter side, I’m 5’4″ so it’s the perfect length for me to wear crossbody. Overall, I enjoy the bag and recommend it. It is my everyday handbag.
LOOK 5: CROP BLOUSE
TOP: This is a fun trendy twist on a classic button down. I love the drawstring detailing at the small of the back. I bought a size up in hopes it would give me more length. In tops I wear a Medium but have really small shoulders so sometimes get a small. WTBS, I bought this in a Large and it fits great. I don’t actually know if I got extra length but whatevs lol
